As Jimmy Rodgers was coined "Father of Country Music" in the U.S.A., Wilf Carter was Canada's father Of country music. He was the first country singer to make it as a professional. His first hit recording was "Swiss Moonlight Lullaby". After that there were many hits from this Canadian cowboy. Wilf invented theThree in one yodel and was very much admired by all the yodelers that succeeded him. His is in the Yodelers Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and as a cowboy in the Horsemen's Hall of Fame in Banff, Alberta. Above all Wilf was known as a gentleman by all who knew him. We can all be proud of Canada's Father of Country Music.
This picture on the right of Wilf and daughters Sheila (left) and Carol was handed out During Wilf's show at Bond Theatre in Carbonear about 1950. The theatre Held about 300 and in excess of 1500 turned up to see the show. Water and Bond Streets were blocked and the surging crowd even overflowed into near By gardens breaking down fences on the way. Wilf came out on the fire escape Balcony and sang a few songs to the people outside. It was the biggest event up to that time in the town of Carbonear.
